0:01Intro:You're listening to Process Server Daily, the show where hustle meets strategy in the high stakes world of process serving. From elite pros to the new servers taking massive action, these are the voices of a rising industry. Hosted by the founder of 1, 2, 3 Legal Support, Mighty Mike Reed. This is your backstage path to building a profitable process serving empire. Let's get into it. Welcome back to another episode of Process Server Daily. Guys, I'm excited because Process Server Daily was a podcast I started when I very first started my company way back in 2014 is when I officially made it, called it Process Server Daily. And those of you guys have been with me for a while. Thank you for tuning in and always being a part of the Mighty Nation crew so. Well, today we are joined by a very special guest. She is the owner and founder of Rhino justice out of Houston. And she's here today to talk to us a little bit about what she does in her business and what makes her different from other process servers in Houston, Texas. Adele Wake. Welcome to the show.
1:21Adell Sedillo:Thank you, Mike. It's good to be here.
1:24Mighty Mike:So, Adele, you have been, you're fairly new to the business, is that right?
1:30Adell Sedillo:That's correct. I've been a processor for the, for the last two years.
1:34Mighty Mike:Yeah, last two years. And you've been, you've been getting attorney customers and affiliates. We call them affiliates in the process serving world. But you mentioned today on our earlier Mastermind that that's not really the core business that you have.
1:47Adell Sedillo:Right, Correct. I would like to go ahead and get more lawyer based clients. I think I have affiliates down and I do a great job with them. But I would like to go ahead and get more lawyers so I can grow my business.
2:05Mighty Mike:Of course, of course. And it's so cool to see people who are new to the business come in and absolutely crush it. We got a few people in our community like yourself that are new to the business, that are not super new, but you know, comparatively to a lot of people that have 30 years or whatever. But you're, you're really changing the face of process serving, which is really cool. And seeing how active and engaged you are in the community and in our Mastermind meetings, it's really cool. So why did you choose? I mean, you seem like a very lovely lady. What, why would you choose process serving?
2:41Adell Sedillo:So I chose process serving after Covid. I think Covid changed a lot of us. I did also change locations from being in Colorado to coming down to Texas and jobs just changed. And I, my cousin's girlfriend introduced me into Process serving. She said it's a great thing that you'd be able to do. I do like not being I. It'll help you go ahead and be like financial, stable, but also time freedom. And so that's really been important with me since COVID because once Covid happens, if you're an employee, you can, if you don't do something right or you don't want to get a certain shot or you don't want to do something, they can just cut you loose. Which I thought of jumping into the process of being world would help. And so I've enjoyed it so far.
3:29Mighty Mike:Wow, that is so cool. Yeah. Oftentimes when I interview people, they tell me the story that got them in. It wasn't like super intentional or whatever, but once you start doing it, you realize you can actually build a business that can fund the, the life of your dreams. Like, you know, a lot of people hear me say that, that I know personally that are like what are you talking about? Like you're just delivering papers. Like, you know, you're, you're just annoying people like a code enforcement guy or something like that, you know. But the reality is we actually process service have a very important role to play in due process. If people don't know that they're being sued or collection agency is trying to sue them or a hospital's trying to collect on this debt or whatever, whatever the situation is for them being sued, they need to know about it. And a lot of people are confused about the purpose of process serving process servers. We're actually a third party, non biased party. We actually know that you may not be guilty of whatever it is they're accusing you of, but that's not our job to judge. We're non biased. So tell me Adele, as you're out there, process Serving and things like that. How do you stay unbiased?
5:40Adell Sedillo:I stay unbiased. I mean, I know somewhat some of the cases are, but I also know that this is a sue happy world in a lot of cases. So I just let at least the recipient that I'm giving the paperwork to is that I am a third party, that I'm no party to the case, that I'm just here delivering their paperwork. So they, they do have the notice and the knowledge acknowledgement that they are, you know, being involved in a legal case. And so that, that we are no party. That is the biggest thing is that it's not like us bringing it individually to them is that we are a third party. So I make sure we get the documents to them so they are aware.
6:18Mighty Mike:That is, that is so cool. So, yeah, I mean it's very professional understanding that you're just a third party. You're not. So tell me, tell me how. Let's transition for those process servers that are listening out there that may be new to the business. How are you getting your customers? Like, what's. Give us the secret sauce. Adele, how are you getting business?
6:37Adell Sedillo:I think the secret sauce is once you can show people your service, I can say with a few affiliates. I have seen them go ahead and try other process servers since I've come into the business. Whether they. And I think it's a little bit like, okay, they'll be a little bit cheaper or I know some of my clients are like, we don't want you to get overloaded where you want to quit the business. Because they say in the first two years, there's not many people that stay past two years. And so they don't want to just like overload me with work. So sometimes they'll try somebody else. And then they. All of a sudden I'm like, sometimes I'll be okay. I'm getting a little bit less work. What's going on? Oh, well, we tried another server, but yeah, we're going to give you back that work. Because either they're not, they're getting affidavits. It takes like two weeks to a month to get back. Somebody's served a, you know, served a paper and they didn't go ahead and update the server process. The server process software within the time frame. Like they'll go ahead and it'll be served two days ago. And then, you know, they have no clue that's even been served because they're not doing it. And so that's just a few of the things of I Just make sure that I'm out there serving when I need to be serving. I update when I need update. My affidavits are back, you know, right away, within 24 to 48 hours, depending if it has to be notarized or not. So I just really give. I guess I don't treat this as a job, I treat this as a career. I think I've done that with all my jobs though. But that's just personal. I think worth ethic is I just want my stuff to always be perfect.
8:11Mighty Mike:Yeah, well, you know, being dedicated to being detail oriented and detailed, being detailed oriented is like a requirement as a paralegal, as a, you know, a registered nurse. Like any of these kind of really important roles that like that are more operational roles, not necessarily leadership roles. They're often those roles where it's like somebody who is the leader, who is maybe the main operator, like the surgeon or the lawyer, litigator, they're counting on you to be the person to do it. I love the phrase I heard from one attorney that always comes to mind is he says, you got one job, deliver the papers and submit a proof of service. And in all my years talking to attorneys and paralegals about, you know, it might be the backup script, I offer to be a backup to the other process server they're already using. And oftentimes when they do vent to me, they're venting about, you know, communicating, like what you were just saying, communicating status. Getting the proofs of service back on time, using a software that'll help you do that sometimes is important. And so how do you do that? How do you make sure that the customer is getting that status, getting their proof of service back on time?
9:28Adell Sedillo:I would say it's a few different ways. There's a few clients of mine that they want when I'm doing the serve they want right then and there when I'm at the, you know, door, going ahead and giving the update right after the service. So there's a few that I'll update in the system. I would say regularly I go ahead and go through my serves. At the end of the night when I come home, I update every single serve. So at the end of the night, it doesn't matter what time it is, if I'm out serving until 10pm I will come home and I will update every single serve so that at 9:00am in the morning, there's no questions on what went ahead and happened the day before. And then if depending on the day, because I was going to say there is somewhere, you know, like it's already like one o' clock updating. And sometimes I will continue to go ahead and do affidavits. If not, I'll do that the next morning. But if I do have time, I will go ahead and put on all my affidavits that don't require the notarization and send those through. So they also have those in the morning.
10:23Mighty Mike:That's awesome. Yeah. Having the ability to communicate every single day or when the, when service is expected. Basically. Like I always say that if. So if you're getting lots of status requests, you're. It's because you're not doing your job, you know, and I've been there. I've been that person where I have an office staff person just dedicated to fielding status requests where it's like, you know, when you do 30, 40, 50 jobs a day or you're attempting those, it can get pretty wild. But you know, when you're making 20 or $30,000 a month, when you reach that point, you can actually hire somebody or look at raising your pricing because you're getting so much of the business that you've pretty much painted yourself into a corner of either hiring or firing some customers that maybe are a little too demanding. And so that's the way I've always looked at it. But I know each company owners a little different. During our mastermind earlier, we were discussing that a little bit and I appreciate the feedback that you gave and, and what you look for in servers and other areas. But what would you say to those people out there that other process serving maybe bigger box companies? What advice would you give to them in, in hiring someone like yourself?
11:41Adell Sedillo:Okay, so one, I just want to just go back to one of your things of. I do know that, you know, you said not let them asking for status. I could say in the two I have been serving, I guess I probably maybe only a handful. Have anybody ever said, you know, do we need status on that? And usually it's not that there isn't status in the system. It is. They just didn't even check the system. So just want to do that. And then I would say for hiring somebody, it's not always the lowest price. It's not always. If somebody's, you know, been in the business for 15 years, they can, you know, do the best job. I think it is, you know, is that everybody deserves a chance and you have your, you know, when you get that chance for that person that just does fire you for the job, you just do the job correctly. I do, you know, strive to go ahead and be one of the best. If I am, you know, my, if I do routine service and it's. I say within 72 hours, I'm usually out there the same day or within 24 hours to go ahead and show them that I can go ahead and get it done. And that's a lot of times why they choose me is because I can show them that they're getting better service than what they even expected.
12:50Mighty Mike:Yeah, that's great. Well, what's. I mean, Rhino Justice. I mean, what a cool name. What is next for Rhino Justice?
13:01Adell Sedillo:I think the next things are for Rhino justice is just growing. I did start out with a different name, but Rhino justice looks like it's going to be the next big thing in Houston. So I'm really excited about the company growing and building. Will be having my website out there soon. So that is getting worked on right now. So I'm just excited about my business being able to expand and see where it goes from there.
13:27Mighty Mike:Well, thank you so much, Adele for coming on. I know that you're a true professional and you know, being somewhat new to the business has not stopped you even a little bit.
