No statewide license is required in Tennessee. Any person 18 or older who is not a party to the case may serve process under TRCP 4.01(2). However, Shelby County (Memphis) requires local appointment, a background check, and a $15,000 bond for private servers. Knox County may also have local requirements. All private servers must identify their name and address on the return of service under Tenn. Code Ann. § 16-15-901.
